This is a painting of the Nephi, who is the author of the book of Nephi in the Book of Mormon.  In this painting he is rebuking his older brothers and a brother-in-law for trying to stop him from following a commandment from God.  Nephi's older brothers, Laman and Lemuel, were always trying to get Nephi to stop doing the right thing.
