Letter Home: On choosing the best

Mom:

I can't remember feeling sheltered as a homeschooler. We just got to pick the best things.

That is something I am working on with planning messages/lessons for those we teach. We can have a good message that will help them but there could be something better, something that will help them more. I'm working on listening to the Spirit to find the best messages/lessons. It will take some time, but I think I am getting better.

LDS Teaching: Mormon women

This video is an address given by Sherry Dew to an LDS audience.
She describes the roles of women in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The Relief Society she mentions is the largest and oldest women's organization in the world.
The Primary is the children's organization in the LDS church.

Letter Home: Transfer

Guess what? We got our transfer call today. I am heading over to Miyazaki!
My companion is fluent in both English and Japanese.  She is Chinese but does not know Chinese.
I will not get any snow!  lol  I prayed that I could just follow the good weather.

For over eight years Sister Breksa has put up with breathing problems.  Shortly before her mission she was tested for allergies - and found that she was allergic to every living thing she was tested for - except dog.  She'd have to live in a barren place to not have problems breathing.  The allergies are complicated by the shape of her inner nose.

And yet, she was going to green damp Japan!  Her first assignment was tropical Okinawa...

As the last mention of the problem in her letter home - she has not had a  problem!  She can breath just fine - including all the breathing necessary to ride her bike!  We are very glad she has been so blessed.

First scripture in the Book of Mormon - English and Japanese

1 Nephi 1:1
I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many  afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days.
